DUI court: how long did it take to resolve for you?

I got a second DUI in January and got referred into DUI court instead of straight probation. My attorney said the program runs 18 months minimum with the treatment component, and I'm on month 4 right now with 2 clean months of testing behind me. Has anyone gone through DUI court in LA all the way to the end, and did the treatment time actually count toward reducing your probation length?

Mine ran about 24 months because I switched treatment providers halfway through and the court needed 2 extra months to verify my new program met the requirements before it would count any of that time. Get everything about your provider approved by the court in writing before you start, or you risk losing weeks of credit like I did. Every courtroom in LA County seems to run this a little differently, so ask your attorney early about how your specific judge handles the credit calculation.

I finished LA County DUI court after a second offense and the whole thing took 19 months from my first hearing to final termination of probation. The 6 months I spent in the required outpatient program got credited directly against my probation length, so my probation ended up about 5 months shorter than the original sentence once the judge signed off on the credit. Staying consistent with every test and every group session in the first 6 months made the biggest difference, since the judge reviewed that stretch closely before approving any credit at all.
